A word on what this ranking is. None of the six casinos on this site runs a poker room where players sit against each other; the large rooms left Australia in 2017 and the legal section explains why. What the six offer is casino poker, where the house banks the game and the dealer is the only opponent, in live and RNG form, and video poker, a pay-table game with a published return. Both are poker in the sense that matters to a card player: the hand rankings are the same, the decisions are real, and a correct strategy changes the result by several percentage points.
The order weighs four things: which poker tables are dealt live and by whom, what the RNG and video poker shelf holds and at what return, whether a promotion exists that pays a table player anything, and the site-wide criteria of banking, licence and support. RocketPlay leads because it is the only casino here with Evolution's complete poker line-up and a cashback written for live-table losses. Fair Go is second on the strength of a video poker shelf that returns 99.78% at its best, which is a higher figure than any blackjack table on this site.
Real Money Poker Online in Australia: The Formats That Are Actually Available
Three kinds of game carry the word poker at an online casino, and they are different products with different odds. The table sets them out with the return to player a correct strategy achieves, the opponent, and which of the six casinos deal them. Returns are the standard published figures for each game's rules; where a casino's table uses a different pay schedule the figure on the table itself prevails.
| Game | Opponent | Return with correct play | Decision | Where (live) | Where (RNG) |
| Ultimate Texas Hold'em | Dealer | About 99.5% of total money bet (house edge 2.19% of the ante) | Raise 4x, 2x or 1x, or fold | RocketPlay (Evolution) | — |
| Texas Hold'em Bonus | Dealer | About 99.5% of total money bet (house edge 0.53% of the ante) | Bet or fold on each street | RocketPlay (Evolution) | Vegastars (Texas Hold'em) |
| Casino Hold'em | Dealer | 97.84% (house edge 2.16% of the ante) | Call or fold after the flop | RocketPlay (Evolution, Playtech), Rainbet (Evolution), WinSpirit (Ezugi) | WinSpirit, Neospin |
| Three Card Poker | Dealer | 96.63% on ante and play; Pair Plus 92.72% | Play or fold on three cards | RocketPlay, Rainbet (Evolution) | Fair Go (Tri-Card Poker) |
| Caribbean Stud | Dealer | 94.78% (house edge 5.22% of the ante) | Raise or fold on five cards | RocketPlay (Evolution) | Vegastars, Fair Go |
| Video poker (full pay) | Pay table | 99.54% (9/6 Jacks or Better) to 99.78% (Aces and Eights) | Which cards to hold | — | Fair Go, Vegastars, Rainbet |
| Peer-to-peer Texas Hold'em | Other players, rake 3–5% | Depends on skill | Full betting rounds | Not offered by any casino on this page |
The spread between the top and bottom of the table is wider than most players expect. A Caribbean Stud table costs about five times what an Ultimate Texas Hold'em table costs for the same ante, and Three Card Poker's Pair Plus side bet is among the worst bets in the casino. Video poker on a full-pay table is the best-returning game on this site, better than blackjack, provided the player holds the right cards, which the pay-table checker below and the strategy notes further down cover.
Live Dealer Poker vs RNG Poker
The same game pays the same odds in both forms at the casinos above. What differs is the pace and the limits. A live Casino Hold'em table deals about 35 hands an hour and starts at AU$1 to AU$5 depending on the studio; the RNG version deals as fast as the player clicks and often starts under AU$1, which makes it the right place to learn the raise-or-fold thresholds before sitting at a live table. The live casino page explains how the stream and the card recognition work.
Is Online Poker Legal in Australia?
For the player, yes; for the operator, no. The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 makes it an offence to provide an interactive gambling service, which includes online poker, to a person in Australia. It has never contained an offence for the person who plays. Until 2017 the large international poker rooms argued that a peer-to-peer game was not a service the Act covered; the Interactive Gambling Amendment Act 2017 removed that argument, gave the ACMA enforcement powers and started the domain-blocking programme that is still running. PokerStars, 888poker and PartyPoker withdrew from Australia in September 2017, and no Australian-licensed online poker room has existed since.
The practical result is the market on this page. Australians who want to play poker online either use an offshore poker room that still accepts them, which this site does not test or rank, or play casino poker and video poker at an offshore casino, which sit on the same legal footing as that casino's blackjack and pokies: the operator holds a Curaçao, Tobique or Anjouan licence, the player is not regulated, and recreational winnings are not taxed because the Australian Taxation Office does not treat gambling as income. The laws section of the blackjack guide covers the ACMA's blocking, why casinos change domains and what consumer protection a player gives up.
- Playing is not an offence under the Act or any state law; the offences are for providing and advertising.
- No local licence exists for online poker or casino games, so every site is offshore and disputes go to the casino's own process and then to its licensing body.
- Land-based poker is separate. Casino poker rooms and licensed pub tournaments operate under state law and are unaffected.
- Payments are the friction. Some banks decline overseas gambling merchants; the banking page lists the PayID, voucher and crypto routes that work.
Poker Variants and Tournaments: How Each Casino Poker Game Works
Each casino poker game is a different trade of decisions against odds. The rules below are the Evolution and RTG versions dealt at the casinos on this page; a studio's table may add a side bet or a progressive, which never improves the base game's return.
Casino Hold'em
The player posts an ante, receives two cards face up, and sees a three-card flop; the dealer's two cards are face down. The player then calls for twice the ante or folds. The turn and river are dealt, the dealer needs a pair of fours or better to qualify, and the best five-card hand wins. If the dealer does not qualify the ante pays by a table that rises from even money for a straight or less to 100:1 for a royal flush, and the call bet is returned. With correct play the game returns 97.84%, and correct play means calling about 82% of the time: fold only the weakest unpaired hands that miss the flop entirely.
Ultimate Texas Hold'em
Ante and Blind are posted in equal amounts, the player sees two cards and may raise four times the ante before the flop, twice the ante after it, or once after the river, or fold. The earlier the raise, the bigger it must be, which is the whole game: strong starting hands are raised 4x at once, medium hands wait for the flop, and weak hands wait for the river and raise 1x or fold. The dealer qualifies with a pair; the Blind pays a bonus table for a straight or better. Return is about 99.5% of the total money wagered, and the strategy for it is in the strategy section.
Texas Hold'em Bonus
The closest casino game to a Hold'em hand: an ante, two hole cards, a flop with a bet of twice the ante or a fold, then the turn and the river each with an optional bet of one ante. The dealer does not need to qualify; the best hand wins all bets at even money, and the ante pays only on a straight or better. The house edge is 0.53% of the ante with correct play, which is the lowest of the dealer-vs-player games here, though the full amount at risk on a hand reaches four antes.
Caribbean Stud
Five cards each, one dealer card face up; the player raises for twice the ante or folds. The dealer qualifies with ace-king or better. If not, the ante pays even money and the raise pushes; if the dealer qualifies and the player wins, the raise is paid by a table from even money for a pair to 100:1 for a royal flush. The qualifying rule is what makes the game expensive: about 44% of the time the dealer fails to qualify and the player's strong hand is paid only even money on the ante. House edge is 5.22% of the ante. The progressive side bet, where offered, is worse still unless the jackpot is unusually high.
Three Card Poker
Three cards each, ante and an optional Pair Plus, then play for the ante amount or fold. The dealer qualifies with queen-high; hand rankings put a straight above a flush because of the three-card odds. House edge is 3.37% of the ante with the single rule of playing queen-six-four or better. Pair Plus pays by a fixed table regardless of the dealer's hand and carries a 7.28% edge on the common schedule.
Tournaments and Cash Games
A peer-to-peer tournament, where the buy-in goes into a prize pool and players are eliminated as their chips go, does not exist at the six casinos on this page because none runs a poker room. What they run instead are live-casino tournaments and races scored on play at the live tables, poker tables included: RocketPlay holds tournaments per live studio scored by stake, by multiplier or by points, open to every loyalty level; WinSpirit's VIP Live Elixir Race is open from VIP Iron with a AU$20 minimum bet. Cash-game poker at these casinos simply means the live and RNG tables above, where every hand is settled at once.
| Casino | Live poker tables | RNG poker | Video poker | Poker-table promotions |
| RocketPlay | Evolution: Casino Hold'em, Ultimate Texas Hold'em, Texas Hold'em Bonus, Caribbean Stud, Three Card Poker; Playtech Casino Hold'em | Limited | Limited | Tuesday live cashback 3–5%; live tournaments per studio |
| Fair Go | None | Caribbean Stud, Tri-Card Poker | Jacks or Better 99.54%, Aces and Eights 99.78%, Sevens Wild, Loose Deuces, All-American | Instant cashback 25–40% on a lost deposit made without a bonus |
| Rainbet | Evolution: Casino Hold'em, Three Card Poker and other poker tables | RNG tables with RTP per game | Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild | Rakeback every 15 minutes; races with sports bets counting triple |
| WinSpirit | Ezugi Casino Hold'em | Poker variants | Limited | Thursday cashback 2–10%; VIP Live Elixir Race from VIP Iron |
| Vegastars | None (Pragmatic Play Live only) | Texas Hold'em, Caribbean Stud | Jacks or Better and variants | Instant cashback on every bet, no wagering |
| Neospin | None found | Poker variants | Limited | Daily cashback 5–20% at 3x |
How to Play Online Poker at a Casino: Strategy and Tips
Casino poker has no bluffing and no reads; the dealer plays a fixed rule and the player's only edge is a correct decision at each point. The rules below are the published optimal strategies for the standard versions of each game. Memorising them is the difference between the return in the table above and a figure two to five points lower.
Ultimate Texas Hold'em: When to Raise
- Raise 4x before the flop with any pair except deuces, any ace, any suited king, suited queen-six or better, suited jack-eight or better, unsuited king-five or better, unsuited queen-eight or better, and unsuited jack-ten. Check everything else.
- Raise 2x after the flop if you did not raise before: with two pair or better, with a hidden pair (one of your cards pairs the board) except pocket deuces, or with four to a flush that includes a hidden ten or better. Otherwise check.
- Raise 1x after the river with a hidden pair or better, or when fewer than 21 dealer two-card combinations beat you; fold the rest.
- Never bet the Trips side bet for the base return; it carries its own edge of about 1.9% to 6.5% by pay table.
Casino Hold'em: Call or Fold
Call with any pair, any ace-high or king-high hand, any straight or flush draw, and most queen-high and jack-high hands unless the flop is single-suited and does not match your cards. Fold only low unpaired hands that miss the flop with no draw, which is about 18% of hands. A player who folds more than one hand in five is giving the house more than its 2.16%.
Caribbean Stud: Raise or Fold
Raise with any pair or better. Raise ace-king when the dealer's up card is a two to a queen and matches one of your cards, or when it is an ace or king and you also hold a queen or jack. Fold every hand below ace-king, however the up card looks. That rule set gives the 5.22% figure; raising weaker hands because the up card is low pushes the edge toward 7%.
Three Card Poker: One Rule
Play queen-six-four or better; fold anything lower. Skip Pair Plus unless the pay table pays at least 4:1 for a flush and 6:1 for a straight, which the common online schedules do not.
Bankroll and Table Rules That Matter
- Count the full bet, not the ante. An Ultimate Texas Hold'em hand with a 4x raise puts six antes at risk; a AU$5 ante table is a AU$30 table. Size the session bankroll at 40 to 50 maximum bets.
- Read the pay table before the first hand. Ante bonuses and Blind pay tables vary by studio; a Casino Hold'em table that pays 7:1 rather than 20:1 for quads changes the return.
- Learn on RNG, play live. The RNG versions at Vegastars, WinSpirit, Neospin and Fair Go deal faster and cheaper; the live tables at RocketPlay and Rainbet are where the limits and the cashback are.
- Decline the welcome match. Table games count 0% or 5% toward wagering at every casino here, and Fair Go excludes video poker from bonus play altogether; the cashback schemes are the promotions that pay. The bonuses page shows the arithmetic.
- Set a loss limit in the account before the session; RocketPlay, WinSpirit and Neospin have self-service limit tabs. The responsible gambling page explains them.
Video Poker Online: Pay Tables, Returns and the Games at Each Casino
Video poker is five-card draw against a pay table: five cards, hold any number, draw, and the final hand is paid by a fixed schedule printed on the screen. Nothing is hidden. The return of the game is a function of that schedule and the player's holds, which means two machines with the same name can return 99.5% and 95% and the difference is visible before the first coin. The two numbers to read are the full house and flush payouts for a single coin: 9 and 6 on Jacks or Better is the full-pay table, 8/5 and below are short-pay.
| Game and pay table | Return with optimal play | How to recognise it | Where on this site |
| Jacks or Better 9/6 | 99.54% | Full house 9, flush 6, royal 800 (max coins) | Fair Go (full pay); Vegastars and Rainbet show the table per game |
| Jacks or Better 8/5 | 97.30% | Full house 8, flush 5 | Common short-pay version; check the panel |
| Aces and Eights (RTG) | 99.78% | Bonus for four aces or four eights; full house 8, flush 5 in the RTG schedule | Fair Go |
| Bonus Poker 8/5 | 99.17% | Four aces 80, four 2s–4s 40, full house 8, flush 5 | Check the panel |
| Double Bonus 10/7 | 100.17% | Full house 10, flush 7, four aces 160 | Rare online; most sites deal 9/7 (99.11%) or 9/6 (97.81%) |
| Double Double Bonus 9/6 | 98.98% | Four aces with a kicker 400, full house 9, flush 6 | Check the panel |
| Deuces Wild, full pay | 100.76% | Four deuces 200, wild royal 25, five of a kind 15, straight flush 9, four of a kind 5 | Rare online; Not So Ugly Deuces (99.73%) is the common good table |
| Sevens Wild, Loose Deuces, All-American (RTG) | Varies by schedule; All-American full pay reaches 100.72% | Read the flush and straight payouts | Fair Go |
Fair Go is the video poker casino on this page: RTG's Aces and Eights at 99.78% and full-pay Jacks or Better at 99.54%, with a demo mode on each, bets from AU$1 and a 25% instant cashback that applies to a deposit made without a bonus. Two rules worth knowing there: video poker does not count toward welcome-bonus wagering and is excluded from play while a bonus is active, so the game is played on a plain deposit, and the comp points earned on every real-money bet are exchanged at 100 points to AU$1. Vegastars deals Jacks or Better and variants from the pokie studios, and Rainbet lists Jacks or Better and Deuces Wild with the RTP on the panel; both pay cashback or rakeback on the play.
Pay-Table Checker: What a Video Poker Game Returns
Choose the game and the pay table shown on the machine, set a bet and a pace, and the checker shows the return, the expected cost per hour and which payouts to look at to confirm the table. The returns assume optimal holds; a typical casual strategy gives up another 1% to 2%.
Jacks or Better: The Holds That Matter
- Always bet five coins. The royal flush pays 800 for one at five coins and 250 for one at fewer; the whole 99.54% depends on it. Lower the coin value, not the coin count.
- Hold a high pair over four to a flush and four to a flush over a low pair; hold a low pair over four to an outside straight.
- Hold four to a royal over everything except a made straight flush or royal; hold three to a royal over a high pair only when the pair is not part of it.
- Never keep a kicker with a pair, and never hold two-card draws to a straight.
- Draw five when the hand has nothing: no pair, no high card, no three to a flush or straight flush.
Online Poker in Australia: Frequently Asked Questions
Is online poker legal in Australia?
Playing is not an offence. The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 makes it illegal to provide online poker or casino games to people in Australia, and the 2017 amendment closed the loophole that had let overseas poker rooms serve Australians, which is why PokerStars and the other large rooms left in 2017. The Act contains no penalty for a player. Casino poker and video poker at the offshore casinos on this page sit on exactly the same legal footing as their blackjack and pokies: the operator is licensed overseas, the player is not regulated, and winnings are not taxed.
Can I play real money poker online in Australia?
Yes, in two forms. Dealer-vs-player poker, where the casino banks the game: Casino Hold'em, Ultimate Texas Hold'em, Caribbean Stud, Three Card Poker and Texas Hold'em Bonus, dealt live by Evolution at RocketPlay and Rainbet and by Ezugi at WinSpirit, or in RNG form at all six casinos. And video poker, a pay-table game against a fixed schedule, strongest at Fair Go with Aces and Eights at 99.78%. Peer-to-peer rooms with cash games and tournaments are a separate product that none of the six casinos on this page offers.
Which online poker site is best in Australia?
For live poker tables, RocketPlay: Evolution's Casino Hold'em, Ultimate Texas Hold'em, Texas Hold'em Bonus, Caribbean Stud and Three Card Poker on one account, with a Tuesday cashback on live losses. For video poker, Fair Go: five RTG games with full-pay tables up to 99.78% and a demo mode on each. For a crypto player, Rainbet: Evolution tables with rakeback on every hand and payouts in minutes. The ranking on this page sets out all six.
What is the best poker game to play at a casino?
By return to player, video poker on a full-pay table: 9/6 Jacks or Better returns 99.54% and Aces and Eights 99.78% with perfect play, which is better than blackjack. Among dealer-vs-player games Ultimate Texas Hold'em returns about 99.5% of the total amount bet with the right raising strategy and Texas Hold'em Bonus about 99.5%, Casino Hold'em about 97.8%, Three Card Poker about 96.6% on the ante and play bets, and Caribbean Stud about 94.8%. The house edge figures and the strategy for each are on this page.
Are there online poker tournaments in Australia?
Not peer-to-peer tournaments at the casinos on this page: none of the six runs a poker room. What exists are live-casino tournaments and races scored on live-table play, which include the poker tables: RocketPlay runs tournaments per live provider, and WinSpirit's VIP Live Elixir Race is open from VIP Iron with a AU$20 minimum bet. Offshore poker rooms that still accept Australians run tournaments, but they are outside this site's testing and ranking.
Do casino bonuses work for poker?
Welcome matches mostly do not: table games, which include casino poker and video poker, count 0% toward wagering at Vegastars, WinSpirit and Fair Go and 5% at RocketPlay and Neospin, and Fair Go's terms exclude video poker from bonus play outright. The promotions that do pay a poker player are the cashbacks: RocketPlay's Tuesday live cashback, Vegastars' instant cashback, Neospin's daily cashback, WinSpirit's Thursday cashback, Fair Go's instant cashback on a lost deposit made without a bonus, and Rainbet's rakeback. The bonuses page explains each.
Online poker in Australia in 2026 means casino poker and video poker at an offshore casino, played against a dealer or a pay table rather than other players, with a return that depends on reading the table and making the right raise. The six casinos ranked above cover the formats: RocketPlay for Evolution's full poker line-up with a live cashback, Fair Go for the best video poker tables, Rainbet for crypto play with rakeback.
